Saving the Mainframe

Presentation

z/VM seems intuitive to those that know it, performs well, saves money, but why don't your users want to use it?
If you had to teach your kids 3270, what would they think? Ever compared DIRMAINT or USER DIRECT to VMWare? Modern virtualization, whether vmware or aws are now normal with web based interfaces. Today's users don't want 3270  or anything "old fashioned".  What DO users want?  A web based interface, access to resources, ability to start and stop servers, and something that looks shiny new.  There have been several attempts to provide this web based function by IBM and other vendors, and there are open source projects such as zoom and the openstack project as part of the open mainframe group.  This presentation will look at what is there, and will look at Velocity Software's native solution, zPRO.
