zEssentials – An accessible introduction to what zSystems are all about

Presentation

Jeff will review the highlights of the z System architecture and how, by a careful evolutionary strategy, IBM has retained compatibility between the original kilobytes-and-single-processor hardware of fifty years ago and today’s machines with their terabytes and hundreds of processors. He will then summarise some of the features that are built in to modern hardware, such as the z14 and modern software, such as z/OS, z/VM and z/VSE that allow IBM’s customers not only to make the words, ‘Zero Down Time’ much more than just a catchphrase but also offer the system capacity, connectivity, security and responsiveness that is needed to support today’s services and applications.
