New monitoring method for enterprise critical applications

Presentation

Traditional monitors look for general measurements like system resources (CPU time) or performance indexes and delays. Unfortunately, these metrices tell little about the status of running applications.
New monitoring methods concentrate on events like CICS, IMS, DB2 batch job transactions directly connected with an application.
In LPARs with low system activity often the monitors themselves are the highest system resource consumers.
New monitoring methods avoid traditional issues by:
Reducing the volume of monitored information to as little as necessary
Using zIIP processors to reduce licensed workload

Systemwork GmbH – a Germany based software and consultancy firm – delivers analysis tools and expertise to help companies identify the most critical application events. A use case will be presented.

The usage of IBM new function described in apar “OA49263: NEW FUNCTION TO ENABLE SMF IN-MEMORY RESOURCES AND THE SMF REAL-TIME INTERFACE” will be discussed.
