Changing Landscape of Capacity Management for the Mainframe

Presentation

For many years, the discussion of capacity management was on the back burner as the mainframe was a mature platform.  However, change is inevitable and the mainframe and its place as a technology platform continues to evolve.  Organizations have begun to review and mature the process of capacity management to keep up with the demands of today’s environment.

The mainframe continues to be an integral cog in an enterprises IT environment, being involved in applications and services that now include the Cloud and hyper-converged technologies.  The focus is now on services and the business as a whole, rather than simply a technology platform. To reflect this, capacity management for the mainframe must become more business-centric - a move away from a component view of capacity management towards a services and business view.

This presentation will cover the following topics:

• CM for the mainframe in the past – strengths and weaknesses
• Why organizations are reviewing CM and their current tools
• What changes in scope and processes require a philosophy change
• Incorporation of Business and Service views
• Plans and addressing new technologies
