Always Look on the Bright Side of Life!

Keynote

The obsession towards the negative aspects of life spurred some psychologists to create a movement intended to restore some balance to psychology.

One of the original founders of Positive Psychology, Martin Seligman, established that positive psychology should shed light on what makes humans thrive as opposed to makes us deprived, and while it seems counter-intuitive to use this branch of psychology in this way, more and more research is emerging on applying Positive Psychology in the treatment of poor mental health.

It offers a range of simple interventions and a shift in the way we think about the world that can positively impact the global epidemic of depression and anxiety.  Depression is only second to back pain as the leading cause of disability worldwide. Depressive disorders contribute to the impact on mortality and disability as well as impacting the length and quality of life.

Positive Psychology provides an understanding of what is means to thrive as a human and provides a range of interventions to increase positive emotions, enhance coping skills, support the search for meaning and purpose in life as well as build resilience and encourage social support

Simple strategies applied those experiencing mild to moderate depression (as opposed to severe depression) have been shown to have the most favourable results It is a cost effective means to tackle the most prevalant global mental health issue around today.
