Programming languages on the Mainframe platform can sometimes be considered 'niche' and esoteric. Indeed, mainstream perception of coding on the mainframe is sometimes rather out of date. For several years now we have been encouraging new perspectives on mainframe coding using the puzzles from Eric Wastl's Advent of Code. In 2023 more entrants than ever took up the challenge with some truly inspiring results! A key goal in this endeavour is to encourage insights and comparisons between languages and approaches to problem solving.This talk highlights some of the takeaways from a rich field of coding solutions and a broad range of languages.
