Speakers

  • Paul Garment at Barclays Bank plc
  • Paul started working in 1978 for the Post Office as a Mainframe Computer Operator on an ICL System 4, that at the time seemed to occupy the space of several 6 a side pitches. After 4 years on shift he started training as a VM systems programmer and later as an MVS network specialist. In 1987 he went freelance and spent almost the next 20 years working his way through Europe in a variety of MVS, VM and Networking technical roles. In 2006 he retired his suitcase and settled into a permanent position at Barclays Bank as a Network Systems Programmer. In 2010 he volunteered to take on a ‘small piece of work’ to look at Linux on System Z. Since then the Linux on Z estate has grown from a single development LPAR into a fully supported estate run over 4 production systems. This year will be his third time presenting at GSE UK and this year the presentation will be based on Barclay's experience of Spectrum Scale.
