Paul Martynenko was until August 2016 the Vice President and Technical Executive for IBM in Europe. He started his IBM career as a 370 VTAM assembler programmer writing networking software for IBM’s internal network. He finished it responsible for IBM’s technical capability in Europe. Throughout his career he was personally driven to build the skills and capabilities of the technical community at large. He led the IT Specialist Profession in the UK and Europe for 10 years, was a member of the Global IBM Distinguished Engineer Appointment Board and the Global Technical Leadership team. Since leaving IBM he has continued this drive: he was the 2017 President of the BCS the Chartered Institute for IT and is now the Senior Trustee; and, to prepare himself for the next stage of IT, in the Spring of 2018 he graduated with an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London.
