Zowe is an open source project with the mission of making the mainframe more accessible to developers by opening up the ecosystem for tools' developers. Instead of customers having to pick a vendor and try to create a stack of software around that vendor's offerings with a choppy experience switching from one set of tools to another, Zowe aims to level the playing field by having the ability for tools be built around a common user experience. Zowe has three arms to it, REST APIs, command line interfaces, and web UIs aggregated in a virtual desktop, through which users can interact directly with the mainframe or bring their own familiar devops tools. This talk will show the goals behind Zowe, how to download and use the tools that come in the base.
