Master the Mainframe contest is a mainframe programming competition that is organised annually by IBM Academic Initiative System Z for students in higher education.   • Dr Herb Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Bedfordshire.  A passionate advocate for including System Z knowledge in the university curriculum, he was responsible forhis department joining the IBM Academic Initiative in February 2012. He is currently Chairman of the UKCMG, a user group for performance and capacity professionals. A recent convert to the mainframe cause, his previous roles in industry include Consultant, Software Designer,and Simulation Modelling specialist. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, a Masters degree in Software Engineering and Doctoral degree in Simulation Modelling. His most recently consulting work has been on succession planning and graduate retention.
