Master the Mainframe contest is a mainframe programming competition that is organised annually by IBM Academic Initiative System Z for students in higher education. During this workshop we will introduce the basic ideas behind the competition, introduce the platform and provide help and support for students to make progress with the challenge so far. Dr Herb Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Bedfordshire. A passionate advocate for including System Z knowledge in the university curriculum, he was responsible forhis department joining the IBM Academic Initiative in February 2012. He is currently Chairman of the UKCMG, a user group for performance and capacity professionals. A recent convert to the mainframe cause, his previous roles in industry include Consultant, Software Designer,and Simulation Modelling specialist. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, a Masters degree in Software Engineering and Doctoral degree in Simulation Modelling. His most recently consulting work has been on succession planning and graduate retention.
