This presentation is an introduction to the concepts and techniques database designers and administrator need to learn to be effective in the role. There are three principal sections with subsections as follows; Database Design Fundamentals: Third Normal Form, Primary and Foreign Keys, Referential Integrity, Primary & Secondary Indexes,Data Partitioning. Db2 Optimiser Principles: Query Optimisation, Cardinality, Statistics & RUNSTATS, Multi-column indexes, Join methods, Sort avoidance. Monitoring Performance: Trace Types, SMF records and Performance Databases. And my personal bio: Michael has 33 years of experience in the industry, most of which has been related to the IBM mainframe. He has worked as a Db2 consultant and taught Db2 courses. During the nineties he spent 5 years at Candle Corporation where he specialised in DB2 performance and tuning and presented on two occasions at IDUG. Now in his 19th year with IBM UK he is working in Analytics working with Db2 and associated tools. His favourite pastime outside work is fell walking in the Lake District. in 2017 he completed bagging the 214 ‘Wainwrights’ and has completed two thirds of the famous Coast to Coast walk from St Bees on the Irish Sea coast to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea coast. |
