  • Rick has worked with IBM systems for over 40 years with the majority focused on VM beginning with VM/SP Release 1 in 1982. He has significant experience with installation, maintenance and administration of all aspects of VM. Through the years, this has included all of the z/VM components, the communication tools which include RSCS, VTAM, and VM Pass-Through, and TCP/IP, plus the application development tools, and the performance monitoring and management tools.

    In addition to VM and the related software components and features, he has a worked on planning, configuration, and installations of numerous hardware generations beginning with the 4341 in 1982 and through all of the remaining bi-polar generations and most of the generations of CMOS processors. He has been a major contributor to Disaster Recovery planning and testing for both z/OS and Linux on IBM Z. He also has experience designing and implement Virtual Switch networks.

    Rick has been a participant with IBM VM development teams working with Early Support programs for RSCS, Pass-Through, TCP/IP and VM for many years beginning with VM/HPO 3.4 and including all of the VM/ESA and
    z/VM releases plus several processor hardware programs.

    Based on his long history of advocacy and expertise with IBM Z, Rick was nominated to the inaugural class of IBM Champions for IBM Z. The Champion program is an IBM recognition of individuals who strive to make a contribution to the worldwide IT community of users of IBM technology.

    Rick is an active participant in the online communities related to VM and Linux and also attends the VM Workshop.
