Leveraging VSAM to provide a general high performance document store on z/OS

(6AU)

Stream: Virtual Room 6
Time: 15:00 - 16:00

Presentation

Learn about a recent enhancement in VSAM, called VSAMDB, which provides a NoSQL document store for z/OS using VSAM data sets.   This function leverages VSAM KSDS functionality and allows for storing large BSON/JSON (UTF-8) objects into VSAM data sets using traditional direct and sequential access to the VSAMDB file. Additional enhancements were made to alternate index processing to allow for faster queries. Because this functionality uses VSAM RLS, SYSPLEX data sharing is provided as well.

  • Barb McDonald at IBM USA
  • I graduated from NMSU with a BS in Computer Science and minors in Math and Economics and started working for IBM in San Jose, CA, as a SW developer for the Storage Division. The first 12 years of my career focused on DFSMS software development, specifically with access methods and device support for storage hardware.  I shifted to distributed storage and spent 4 years as a project manager bringing to market a new storage management SW product. I returned to DFSMS, where I continued to work with the development teams as the DFSMS PDT Leader.  After 30+ years with IBM, my current position is as the DFSMS Solution Offering Manager.  I work closely with cross product teams to drive plans to deliver solutions that delight our clients and drive continued success and growth for IBM Z.
