There is something of a myth that it is difficult to interest newcomers in the mainframe technology because of the steep learning curve. The Letterkenny Institute, Co. Donegal, Ireland has been running a programme for new mainframers 15 years now and developed new talent on the platform for companies all over the Republic of Ireland and beyond. This session will highlight our experiences in establishing the programme and working successfully with industry over a number of years. We will also talk about the best way to establish practical skills in new learners in topics such as z/OS, CICS and COBOL, using some of the tools available for interactive teaching. We welcome questions from the audience.
