Stream: Virtual Room 8
Time: 17:00 - 18:00
What i've learned from 30 years of z/VM and Linux performance monitoring is that it is really nice if you know exactly where your resource is going. Becoming accustomed to 100% capture ratios, and now looking at z/OS trying to get the SMF113, 70, 30, PRSM and even 110 CPU numbers to all agree was more of a challenge than expected. This will be a presentation of how close I came, and how I got there, and what I learned along the way (yes, z/OS is very different than z/VM, who would have thought….)
Barton Robinson is CEO and CTO of Velocity Software. Barton is a regular speaker on z/VM and Linux on System Z performance topis at SHARE, CMG, IBM and GSE Conferences worldwide. With 30 years of experience with z/VM performance, Barton is heavily involved in performance research to understand how to make Linux run most effectively on z/VM. This research also includes being a participant in many of IBM's Linux on z/VM Redbook residencies, as well as working with hundreds of installations on their performance problems. Barton is the cheif architect of zVPS, Velocity Software's product suite for z/VM and Linux on System Z performance measurement, accounting & chargeback and capacity planning.
