Presentation

Performance tuning is the improvement of system performance. Most systems will respond to increased load with some degree of decreasing performance. A system's ability to accept higher load is called scalability and modifying a system to handle a higher load is synonymous to performance tuning. Tuning is a key factor in improving performance.

The goal of performance tuning is to make the best use of your current resources to meet your current objectives.

For effective performance management, you need to go on to measure resource requirements at the workload level. Analyzing your workload helps you to understand the behavior of your system and how workloads interact with each other.

Ensure applications are using mainframe CPU efficiently, both to maintain service levels and to keep costs in control. Mainframe application performance management—also known as performance tuning. This can help to identify and correct application coding errors and inefficiencies in order to deliver faster responses and to reach service levels. More efficient code should also result in the same workload being handled using less processing power, helping to minimize usage-based software licensing charges and reduce the pressure to invest in additional processing capacity.

Here are some tips that can help you optimize your mainframe performance.

Performance tuning always plays a major role in terms of both costs and performance, is always a high priority and worth doing it!

  • Mary Solomon at SMT Data
  • Mary Solomon is consulting in SMT Data A/S since 2018. Has a total of 9 years of experience in Mainframe Performance & Capacity management a major portion of which had been her association with IBM India. Currently, she supports multiple clients in the Nordic region. She has been involved in various mainframe optimization projects. Instrumental in performing health checks she has helped clients to optimize the configuration to reduce floor capacity/software licensing charges. She works with large banks to develop capacity plans for budgeting and forecasting. Is an expert in SAS / MXG and also in using SMT ITBI Tool for creating reports for the various clients.
