How long is too long? Multi-period Service Classes

(6AV)

Stream: Virtual Room 6
Time: 14:00 - 15:00

Presentation

Duration. Seems simple enough: how long do I give a transaction to get done? The reality is somewhat more complex. Firstly, the duration is not wall-clock time, it's weighted Service Units. And what are your 'weights' (coefficients) anyway? Are you aware that soon the option to change these will soon disappear (post z/OS 2.4)? Further, every machine is different: have you checked durations since your last upgrade? Multiple periods are one of the most powerful - and dangerous - tools in the performance analysts arsenal. They can ensure critical work gets done and runaway work can't take over. This session provides a timely update to setting up or reviewing this critical area.
