Stream: Virtual Room 7
Time: 09:00 - 10:00
The worlds of DevOps and databases have truly collided, and many organisations are now looking at ways to reduce risk and improve agility by automating the deployment of DB2 schema changes. |
This presentation will provide a overview of the technical options and challenges around automating schema change in a DB2 for z/OS environment, together with some practical guidance on ways in which the basic process can be further enhanced. Topics such as schema versioning, environment logging, DDL quality assurance, production copyback processing and Jira integration will be covered, based on real-world experiences.

Julian has over 30 years of Db2 for z/OS experience in application programming, database administration, technical architecture, performance tuning and systems programming. More recently, he has specialised in the implementation of DevOps practices within enterprise mainframe customers. He is an IBM Redbook author and regularly produces White Papers and other IBM publications covering new Db2 releases. In 1999 Julian was invited to join the IBM Gold Consultants program, used to recognise the contributions and influence of the world's 100 leading database consultants. In May 2008, Julian was recognised as one of IBM’s inaugural Data Champions – a program to recognise individuals for outstanding contributions to the data management community. He has been re-nominated each year since then. He is also a past President of IDUG (International DB2 User Group).
