Working with Universities: Your first collaboration project!

Universities and the mainframe community have so many interests in common, yet successful collaborations are relatively uncommon and misunderstandings are rife. This talk will explore the benefits of collaboration, and the different forms this might take and the levels of commitment required. The underlying issues that can prevent initiatives working are discussed. Finally we walk through the details of  creating your first collaboration project with a university.

  • Dr Herb Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University ofWolverhampton.  A passionate advocate for including System Z knowledge in the university curriculum, he was responsible forhis department joining the IBM Academic Initiative in February 2012. He is currently Chairman of the UKCMG, a user group for performance and capacity professionals. A recent convert to the mainframe cause, his previous roles in industry include Consultant, Software Designer,and Simulation Modelling specialist. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, a Masters degree in Software Engineering and Doctoral degree in Simulation Modelling. His most recently consulting work has been on succession planning and graduate retention.
