z/VM for Rookies: Monitoring and Managing z/VM for Linux Virtual Servers
Now that you know z/VM is not like other hypervisors (it's much more powerful and flexible), come learn the concepts needed to monitor and manage this unique environment that supports so many Linux virtual servers.
Malcolm Beattie works in IBM UK's Technology Services business (formerly known as IBM Systems Lab Services) as a Linux and IBM zSystems (mainframe) Technical Consultant. He has 30+ years experience with Linux and 20+ years experience with mainframes. He provides technical services (consultancy, design and hands-on implementation) for customers (primarily in the UK) in the area of zSystems (and LinuxONE) hardware and software, particularly z/VM virtualisation technology and Linux on IBM zSystems. To support IBM's zSystems Academic Initiative, he teaches the undergraduate mainframe module at Surrey University and also manages and runs "Zeus", the mainframe hub that provides free online IBM zSystems access for education use to universities across Europe. Malcolm began his mainframe career at IBM in 1985 and has also spent 9 years as Systems Programmer for Oxford University Computing Services where he worked on a number of open source projects. He holds a BA, MA and DPhil in Mathematics from Oxford University. He is a Senior Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Surrey University.
