Presentation

Mainframe optimization is a multi-tiered ongoing process where batch performance management is a major area that needs focus.
It is good to know what resources are on the mainframe, how and when are they being used, and for what price. The goal of batch performance
management is to make the best use of existing resources to meet batch service level agreements (SLAs).

For effective batch performance, need to measure resource requirements at the job level, to ensure batch applications are using mainframe CPU
efficiently, both to maintain service levels and to keep costs in control.

Analyzing batch helps to understand the behavior of batch CPU utilization and how batch interacts with different components like DB2, IMS, etc.,
Batch performance metrics help to identify and correct application coding errors and inefficiencies in order to deliver faster responses and meet service
levels. More efficient code will result in the same workload being handled using less processing power helping to minimize usage-based software
licensing charges and reduce the pressure to invest in additional processing capacity.

Since batch performance plays a major role in terms of both costs and performance in the mainframe, it is worth doing it!
