The important Parmlib Members and impact on IPL process

(HE)

Stream: Large Systems
Time: 15:15 - 16:15

Presentation

A successful IPL means you need an understanding of the parmlib members and in effect how to analyse them and the sequence followed in the IPL process of z/OS initialization. This presentation will focus on some of the primary members, in particular LOAD, IEASYS, IEASYM, SYSCAT and the values you’d expect to see in a successful IPL. You need to think of changes via System symbols, Master Catalog and Parmlib Concatenation.
IEASYS00 is often considered the anchor member of SYS1.PARMLIB but it’s not really (with LOAD and IEASYM having earlier influence). But you do need to understand the importance of the IEASYS “Directors” (leading to other members) v plain “Parameters” (directly allocated values). And what are these important members directed by IEASYS that have a big impact on the IPL sequence.
Though concentrating on the early members in IPL sequence process, discussing the extensive aspects of IEASYS, we’ll also highlight some of the differences in PARMLIB members between z/OS 2.5 and 3.1.
