OpenTelemetry on the Mainframe: A Closer Look

(MF)

Stream: New Technologies
Time: 11:15 - 12:00

Presentation

OpenTelemetry is a key component of the new observability stack. With an effective observability, businesses gain better insight into their often-complex distributed applications and can respond faster to revenue impacting issues. Research among mainframe customers shows that mainframe integration is a mandatory requirement for the new observability stack. The OpenTelemetry project provides APIs, SDKs and the technology to extract signals (metrics, traces, logs) from any sources, to transform and send them to any destinations of choice for processing. The OpenTelemetry project and the Open Mainframe Project jointly founded the new Special Interest Group (SIG) "OpenTelemetry on Mainframe" at the beginning of the year. The goal of this group is to enable OpenTelemetry for the mainframe to standardize and simplify the export of mainframe telemetry. Join this session to learn more about OpenTelemetry, the SIG's activities and the areas where we want to contribute to the OpenTelemetry project to improve the support on the mainframe.
