Introduction to Db2 for z/OS Restart

(FI)

Stream: Db2
Time: 14:15 - 15:00

Presentation

Abstract:

It is all too easy to take Db2 restart for granted, but it is important to understand how Db2 restart works so you can plan for and practice restart when there are exception conditions. Planning, practice and preparation will stand you in good stead when you have a real emergency and need to restore a business service as soon as possible and at the same time, as far as is possible, preserving data integrity.

Objective:

1. Understand what happens when Db2 restarts, both for stand-alone subsystems and in data sharing environments. This includes restart after a controlled shutdown and after an subsystem, member or data sharing group failure.

2. Understand what looks normal after either kind of restart, and what looks abnormal.

3. Learn how to identify and deal with exception conditions arising from a restart.

4. Learn how to deal with exception conditions such as LPAR failure.

5. Learn how to restart Db2 conditionally, and under what conditions.
