As the skilled mainframe workforce retires, organizations face the urgent challenge of attracting and recruiting the next generation of Z talent.
To combat the skills gap, it's crucial to understand the perspectives and preferences of emerging college students.
At this session, you’ll hear directly from students, Amanda Potenza and Evan Spillane about their experiences of working in the IBM-Marist Joint Study program and about their cool ICSF and quantum projects.
They’ll also share their candid insights and advice for what motivates them in their job search and will open your eyes to the key factors that influence their decisions in accepting job offers.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet with these talented students.
Christy Schroeder is the Program Director for the IBM-Marist College Joint Study program.
Two of the Marist students are working on really cool projects involving quantum and AI:
Christy Schroeder has over 30 years of experience on the z Systems platform and has established extensive client, partner, and ISV relationships throughout her various IBM roles. From enabling ISVs on the z Systems platform, managing z/OS Development Teams, and presenting z Systems hardware to clients at the Poughkeepsie Executive Briefing Center and IBM and User Group events, she has been focused on learning and building the z ecosystem. Her current role as the Worldwide z Systems Skills Client Leader extends that focus by educating clients on the z Systems Academic Initiative offerings available to help them find, build and retain enterprise talent. Christy earned both an MS in Information Systems and an MA in Education from Marist College and earned her BS in Computer Science at the University of Denver. Amanda Potenza is a senior at Marist College studying computer science with minors in IT and IS. Earlier this year, she was hired into the Marist/IBM joint study program. Since then, Amanda has had incredible experiences working onsite at IBM with the ICSF department creating and enhancing various crpytographic key management tools. Currently, Amanda is expanding her work by implementing NISTs newly standardized quantum-safe algorithms into ICSF's code, contributing to the forefront of secure computing advancements.
Hi! I'm Evan Spillane and I'm currently an undergraduate student at Marist College where I am a member of the Honors program. I am double majoring in Cybersecurity and Philosophy. I have been the President of my Class for 3 years now and have been President of Marist Esports for 2 years.
For the last three semester or so I have been honored to be a part of the Marist-IBM Joint Study doing Quantum Computing research in the field of Cybersecurity. I am very passionate about my work, although its hard to consider it work when I enjoy doing it so much. I have presented my research at various conferences, and was awarded first place at IBM's TechConnect 2023 Conference in the Hudson Valley.
