Back to the Future: The Evolution of Mainframe Application Development
(JW)
Stream: MQ & AppDev II
Time: 15:15 - 16:00
Presentation
This interactive discussion session will take a look back at mainframe application development over a 40-year timespan. Though the core building blocks of mainframe applications -- such as COBOL, PL/I, CICS, JCL, VSAM, Db2, etc. -- have consistently driven huge value over this period, the session will describe how surrounding architectures, development tools, processes and even communities, have evolved over that time to support today's exciting technology landscape. With a nod to Huey Lewis, specific examples, based on experience, will be provided and it's hoped the attendee will appreciate that these applications will continue to remain first-class business assets and relevant for the next 40 years!
