After a similar session at GSE 2024, a delegate exclaimed “This was the mainframe skills session we needed at the start of the conference!” – and so, by public demand, we’re returning to paint an important foundational picture of the challenges, opportunities, and practical realities of the mainframe skills question. Looking at the history, the mythology, and the market statistics, we will separate truth from tittle-tattle and take a dispassionate look at the variety of tremendous opportunities and resources – training as well as technology - available for early-career mainframers. With an employment market that looks overcast and grey, this session aims to provide some blue skies to brighten your mainframe career path.
