Modernizing legacy systems is easy to talk about - doing it in a high-stakes production environment is another story. In this session, I’ll share what it took to implement a REST API for a long-running mainframe monitoring system, based on my experience leading the project from architecture to rollout. We faced real-world challenges: integrating with old code, managing authentication and authorization, and ensuring performance under load. You'll leave with lessons learned, pitfalls to avoid, and a few creative solutions you might not find in the documentation.
