Stream: Open Mainframe Project
Time: 15:15 - 16:00
Working with legacy code is something most of us do, but when it is open-source utility for mainframe - brings additional set of complications and challanges. I will discuss my experience contributing to open-source utility, which is part of Open Mainframe Project. I fixed bugs that had been around for years, aligned unittest logic based on how the tool behaves on z/OS, and implemented C++ based version for better performance. It's not just about coding, but also communication, understanding original intent, and balancing modernization with respect for what's already working. If you are thinking about contributing to Open Mainframe Project or just trying to modernize tricky legacy code - you will find this session relevant.
