Introduction to Mainframe Networking Concepts

(SH)

Stream: Application Development & Network Management
Time: 12:30 - 13:15

Presentation

No experience required! Mainframes are the backbone of the worldwide economy, and it is important to understand how they are connected, from a networking perspective, in today's hybrid world. In this session we'll give you a taste of it all: we will cover how mainframes use TCP/IP, how its legacy counterpart SNA works (and is still used!), and how Enterprise Extender bridges the gap between the two. We'll chat about OSA adapters, VIPA configurations, and how to use AT-TLS to provide encryption and security for your entire network. Finally, we'll use the NetMaster product to show you some best practices for how to monitor a mainframe network. We will demonstrate packet tracing, network event detection, and attribute monitoring for all types of networking resources. You'll leave this session with a basic understanding of how mainframe networking works with enough tools in your toolbox to dive in and explore!
