For many years the options for people who wanted to learn about mainframe technologies was fairly limited with internal courses and specialist providers dominating. Recently however the environment for learning on the platform changed considerably in recent years. New groups and organisations now offer different models of leaning and community that suit many different kinds of learner. This talk offers a review of the models and programmes available for learning about the platform and we invite learners, mentors, hiring managers and training providers to attend and relate their experiences too.

Anthony Papageorgiou is the Technical Strategy Lead for Integration on IBM Z working at IBM Hursley UK. Anthony holds a first class bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Warwick. His areas of expertise include APIs, Mobile, Cloud and Event Processing technologies, and their implementation within large enterprise systems. He is also experienced with applying Agile, Design Thinking, DevOps and Continuous Delivery methodologies to large software development projects. Since joining IBM in 2007 he has performed roles across Test, Development, Architecture, Management and Strategy for a number of IBM Z software products. Most recently he has been leading the zOS Connect Enterprise Edition team to unleash the power of IBM Z across a hybrid IT landscape through the use of APIs. In his current role, Anthony is working across the IBM Z Software Portfolio to define the overall technical strategy for integration on the IBM Z platform
Dr Herb Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University ofWolverhampton. A passionate advocate for including System Z knowledge in the university curriculum, he was responsible forhis department joining the IBM Academic Initiative in February 2012. He is currently Chairman of the UKCMG, a user group for performance and capacity professionals. A recent convert to the mainframe cause, his previous roles in industry include Consultant, Software Designer,and Simulation Modelling specialist. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, a Masters degree in Software Engineering and Doctoral degree in Simulation Modelling. His most recently consulting work has been on succession planning and graduate retention.
