z/OS startup times can impact your lifestyle. Just ask anyone IPLing after a system crash, or implementing a change in a tight change window. But despite this, z/OS startup times that drag on are not uncommon. And it’s not just z/OS. Slow CICS, Db2 and other startup times can result in angry users waiting for their applications to come online.
This session will show how to shrink these startup times. Mixing real world examples with technical detail, it will show things that can slow your startup, and things that can fix it. It will also show the good, the bad and the ugly seen in the field.
David Stephens is a z/OS systems consultant with Longpela Expertise, often working with CPT Global. He has over 35 years’ experience with z/OS and associate subsystems including CICS, IMS and MQ. His experience includes systems software development for IBM, and for the past 16 years a z/OS systems consultant. He is the author of the book “What On Earth is a Mainframe.”
