Before starting my mainframe career, I was passionate about security in general. As a beginner, I attended numerous Mainframe Security 102 sessions, which in hindsight probably wasn’t the best idea, I should have started with a 101 session! The jargon went over my head, but it sparked my curiosity about mainframe security. After learning what a mainframe is and understanding the basics of security, I started my career in mainframes. Over time, I gained a deeper understanding of mainframe security, and with my passion for the field, I now want to give back by sharing my knowledge with students and early-career professionals. Many universities don’t teach what mainframes are or how mainframe security works. In this session, you’ll learn why mainframes are important, why mainframe security is crucial, and the different types of security managers on a mainframe. We’ll cover External Security Managers (ESMs), explain what RACF is, show the difference between RACF panels and zSecure, and explain how zSecure enhances security management compared to traditional RACF panels.

After being introduced to mainframes, she developed a keen interest in both mainframe technology and mainframe security. Although still early in her career, Simran is actively learning and passionate about sharing her knowledge to help students and early-career professionals discover mainframes.
