I have always loved math and science and when I started college with a Mathematics major I honestly had no idea what I was going to do after school; was I going to be a teacher, an actuary, an engineer…? I was open to all of the options! I happened to take a computer science class and found a passion for it. From that moment on, I added a minor in computer science and wanted to pursue a career in this field. Right after college I began a technical support analyst position at a small BI Analytics company where I became the primary onboarding/ training person for my department. About 1.5 years later, I took the amazing opportunity to move into L2 Support at IBM for z/OS RSMASM. In 2022 I moved into z/OS DFSMS Product Management where I am actually able to work in an area of the mainframe that allows me to collaborate with new hires across the industry in an effort to modernize and simplify the mainframe. I guess all of my previous roles aligned perfectly to put me in this privileged position to influence the direction of the mainframe for the better.
IBM, z/OSMF Storage Management Product Owner Zahed Hossain is a software engineer and Product Owner for z/OSMF Storage Management at IBM, working within the z/OS DFSMS organization. Based in Bangalore, he specializes in enterprise storage management on z/OS, with a strong focus on usability, modernization, and customer‑driven innovation. Zahed collaborates closely with development, design, and customer teams to deliver scalable, reliable storage solutions for mission‑critical mainframe environments. He enjoys sharing practical insights on z/OS storage, product strategy, and real‑world problem solving.
