Expanding SMF Access to Promote Data-driven Decision Making

(8P)

Stream: Virtual Room 8
Time: 12:30 - 13:15

Presentation

Much of the mainframe industry is “stuck” doing SMF performance reporting the way they have done it for 30+ years, limited to a small, centralized group of tenured staff who are the only ones capable of using their complex tooling to generate the reports needed to satisfy analysis requests that may come in from across the organization. Many have not considered what they are missing out on with such a limited use of their rich mainframe data and are not aware any other model might even be feasible. This session will challenge that thinking by presenting (1) potential benefits of building a broad-based data-driven analytical culture and (2) action steps toward reaching a target state where personnel across I/T have self-service access to SMF data to make better and more timely decisions.
